Kari Wuhrer: ‘Come to me with those offers! I’m waiting!’(Scans & English/Dutch Translation Courtesy Of "Kari_Fan")
The ‘W’’ is from “Wuhrer’, but also from ‘Who’. After playing almost 50 movies, Kari is still an unknown person. Only fans from the TV-show Sliders might know who she is. Her role as the tough police officer, single mom ánd the lover of David Arquette in the big screen movie Eight Legged Freaks is her big breakthrough. And for Kari, who has German and Indian blood flowing trough her vessels, it couldn’t be a better moment. Q: You might be unknown, but absolutely NOT lazy.Kari: “That’s right. I’ve been doing a lot, but that all wasn’t very much. It’s hard to make your entrance in Hollywood. It all seems to be one big popularity contest in there, instead of something else. And I’ve never been popular. So if somebody would offer me something exciting, like a movie where I have to travel for to Prague, do you really think I’m bothered with the fact the scenario might stink big time? I didn’t care. But a lot of times, it really stinked. It gave me the oppertunity to travel a lot, to see something of the world and to learn more about acting. Now I have, after making 50 movies, a lot of experience, by making mistakes all the time. I learned of them and now I’m ready for the real deal. Come to me with those offers! Q: You? Not popular?Kari: “I was looking… euh… let me say this right… ‘interesting’. I’ve never been that classical pretty girl. I had a bad hairdo, and in first class I was this punk. I was bald and my clothes were all ripped open everywhere. Now I think I’m the most attractive I have ever been. I’m really a late-bloomer”. Q: Is that the same thing with dating? Kari: ”Yes, it is. Eight Legged Freaks is a real date-movie. A horror movie where your partner has to put his arms around you on times it gets really freaky. But… it didn’t happen to me. But I really love horror movies! My absolute favorites are ‘Body Snatchers’, ‘Them’ and ‘Tarantula’. And even ‘Attack of the Killer Tomatoes’. See, horror movies with big, huge monsters, that’s what I like. But those psychological thrillers, they really bug me. I remember I watched ‘Dressed to kill’. Michael Caine who turns around with his wig and says: “I’m Jennifer!”. I couldn’t sleep for at least a week. I was more the Star Trek-Girl. So for me, a movie like Eight Legged Freaks is absolutely perfect. When the light goes on, you know they’re gone. It’s not the same as terrorism, if you know what I mean”. Q: In the movie, you really stand for yourself, though.Kari: “A gun in one’s hands is like a miracle. It was even bigger as me! I’m not really someoone who’s pro the use of guns or weapons, but if there would be monster spiders in my garden, I wouldn’t even doubt thinking twice!” Q: What will be the next movie that we’ll see you in? Or not?Kari: “For now on, I’m gonna concentrate on producing movies. So, see me a lot? I’m not sure yet. I did finish shooting another movie just weeks ago. It’s called ‘Spider’s Web’. And nó, it’s nót about spiders! Actually, it’s this really serious drama thing. That’s because I really like some alternation. |
