Hi everybody it's Kari. I am about to answer all the questions that you guys have asked. And I just first off want to say thank you very much for all the birthday wishes. It was really great. You guys really made me feel special on my birthday and it was a very tough day and yet all the lovely gifts were very very much appreciated. |
Also I just want to say that I will start answering my mail. I've been waiting for General Hospital to give me the photographs that they've taken so that I can have some 8 x 10's to send out and what not. You know first of all, I needed to get settled in there and it was kind of crazy and very difficult but I'm ready to get going with that. |
So I appreciate the mail and it really makes a big difference over there. I love you guys for really supporting me and this character.... which by the way are two totally separate things. Just so you know, I don't write the Show. And I'm just doing my best man. That's all I can say. It's very interesting! |
My husband James has so generously offered to ask me the questions that you guys asked, so we can reiterate and I can answer them conversationally with him. We're sitting in our family room right now with incense burning and we've been trying to find a professional way to record this but we haven't had any luck. General Hospital has a professional studio but nobody's been available. That's why it's taken so long. So now we're doing it on my karaoke machine (laugh). So I hope the quality is okay. Andrew I love you for making this work. And here we go. |
1) So the first question is from Anthony (Licuria) in Australia |
When you were a little girl, did you think that you would have become a successful actress like you are today? Starring in so many films, does it make you proud? By the way Anthony is the one who did some artwork of Kari that we both saw and thought was great so .... |
Yeah I want my picture Anthony. And thank you so much too for those cookies. They were yummy! But to answer your question. When I was a little girl I thought I would be like way more succcessul an actress. I thought I was going to be the next Judy Garland or Buffy from All In The Family (She meant Family Affair) I was really really intense on practicing my dancing and my singing and it was everything to me. I had a pink room. All the things that you could possibly picture. That's what I was about. |
Am I proud? Well my parents are proud. And even prouder now that, you know, I have a little boy and a really great family. And I've made better choices or more adult choices. I like myself and I think I'm cool (laugh) and thanks for the question. |
2) This one is from from Jason Turnbull (in Australia) & Jesse Flores (I imagine also in Australia?) We know about Hellraiser and the Prophecy Films. Have you got any movies in the works for the near future or will you be concentrating solely |
(To James) NOT! We need a little more energy there. Hey Jason and Jesse. Thanks for the question. (laugh) The Hellraiser and Prophecy Films are coming out soon. I guess Hellraiser comes out when Honey? Wasn't it supposed to come out in January? Hellraiser is in June and the first Prophecy is in July? Then the 2nd one is in September. You know who would know this is Andrew even more so than myself and James. |
Yeah okay well you know about them already. Movies in the future? Ah, I have to concentrate on GH for the first six months of my contract just because I need to, you know, get this medium under control. I don't know what I'm doing yet in this daytime medium so I really have to put 100% of my focus there or what's left over after I focus on my child. |
But the movies, I will be doing movies. I can't just do General Hospital and nothing else. I'm a girl from the cinema. I can't imagine the next four years just doing General Hospital. |
But my husband is a Film Producer so that's really good. I can always bug him for parts. So yeah there's stuff coming up but I have yet to sign the contract for that so I don't even, I can't really talk about that. But yeah I'm not disappearing completely from my previous life. Okay, and thanks for the question. |
And the followup. I'm only going to hire her for scale and they're still negotiating that. |
3) The next one is from Stacie. I'll try to get more energy so She doesn't steal the microphone. |
As a Sonny fan I'll never be able to settle for anything less than Sonny and Reese now that I know her heart and have seen you and Maurice together. Some actresses are bothered by knowing that fans have fallen for a couple as well as a character and they resent it. Do you resent all of us Sonny fans who are so wrapped up in the couple? Do you feel left out? |
I'm happy for any fans Stacie (laugh) you know that. I'm just focusing on doing or trying to do good work and trying to build chemistry with Maurice. |
If the people like it that's what it is about. I'm making a Show here and I'm part of an ensemble. I just care that the show works. I care that the ratings are good and I care that I'm a part of a team. The individual thing gets too overwhelming at times. I'd rather have the attention deflected. Let's make it about the couple. That's fine. You know so .... Resenting? What do I resent? I'm a girl on fire. I'm on cloud nine. I'm thrilled to be working with Maurice Benard. Thanks Stace. |
4) The next question is from Alan Seidler (apologies if that was mispronounced) who is a composer and musician. He says "I can't help but be curious whether your continued acting work, not to mention the demands of marriage and new motherhood, have made you put your musical side totally on the shelf. In other words, do you still write songs on the sly? (I hope so.) And, do you ever intend to return to the musical side of The Industry in any capacity later in life?" |
Alan! I hate this question because it makes me feel so guilty and so lazy. My marraige isn't really demanding. My son is ..... I mean it's all good. I could do whatever I want. I could be writing music. I have a lot of free time if I make it. I'm just so tired. But I also have this sort of weird tendonitis from lifting my very heavy boy. |
And it's made it very difficult for me to play my guitar. But I made a promise to myself and my husband that I was going to take my guitar into my dressing room and back to work. I'm starting to really get a creative itch again and even though it is really great singing to my Son and making up little things to him, I think it's important that I get back to music. |
Every time I forget to put on a cd and turn on the TV instead, something dies in me. Little by little I'm starting to get back to it and dance with my Son and listen in the car and rediscover what I love about music and I'm hoping this leads me back to my guitar. |
This isn't sad I mean I've gained many new things in my life. Sometimes we just have to divert our attention for a little while so that we can appreciate what we're all about. So thank you for the question. Don't ask it again. |
(4b) What Honey? Oh From Pagie. You want me to ask the followup question? And George Asvestas (from Montreal), Jim Pike, Melissa & Steve. Pagie, Paygee, Pagie? He won $500 bucks off me. You know. How do I pronounce his name? I'm going to call him Pagie cause that sounds funnier. But you're crazy Pagie. Umm all right. |
Would you be considering doing another album sometime in the future? |
You know all my Idols are musicians. I hate to be like the sucky musician who is really the actress. I don't know maybe? Who knows what I will be inspired by next? |
My Son keeps thrilling me moment by moment. I know he loves music. Maybe that will be it. Am I keeping up with new music? Not really (laugh) Jimmy just told me the other day that the new Audioslave is coming pretty soon. I'm really excited about that. |
Oh yeah I love Gwendolyn and the Goodtime Gang. They're a really cool group of nutcases for kids. And the new Coldplay record. I'm sort of into Muse and of course like always, I love Cat Stevens. Please help me people. Help me not to get old. I listened to the Yahoo Radio today. |
Ah if I did another album who would be my dream band? Well I would love to one day do a duet with Chris Cornell. How funny would that be. Be like (laugh). Meatloaf. I don't know? Yeah Chris Cornell. I love him. As far as like ... I would love Ginger Baker to play drums. |
Umm I actually would love a (would you stop encourageing me to say something I don't want to say James) I would love for the whole Alice in Chains gang if they were still alive to be my backup band. But then again I could sit here all day and muse about that. I love Rock And Roll you know. I love Billy Preston. I was listening to Billy Preston today. How old am I? That was pretty cool. |
And of course, there are always those kids from American Idol (Honey I'm just kidding laugh) All right. Let's ask another question. |
5) All right. This one I think this one is from Becke Bryant. What has surprised you the most since you've been on General Hospital? |
What's surprised me the most since I've been on General Hospital? How hard it is to be an actor. (laugh) To be available every single day. To have your emotions ready and available. To have to use that instrument constantly and how it is like any other muscle. Your memory gets better really really quickly. |
All of a sudden 30 pages of dialog is a light day. And how hard people work. That's been a real surprise and I think for a long time I thought that acting was like a party or it was fun or it wasn't really a job it was just a dream. But General Hospital has taught me that a gift is a gift but a craft is hard work and you have to practice it and you have to do it with sincerity and force just like any other 9 to 5'er, any other blue collar person, anybody else who wants to make an honest living. So I'm really earning my paycheck. I tell ya. I think? I don't know maybe my work isn't that good but I'm certainly working hard at it so hopefully they'll balance each other out. I'm so self deprecating. (laugh) |
6) The next one is from Estelle. This is a good one. |
Kari, do you see Reese and Sonny having a long time relationship that won't be torn apart by lies, deceptions and betrayals and what would you like to see happen with them? |
Ummm. Oh my god Estelle. (laugh) NO! I think that this is a Soap Opera. There is definitely going to be deceit unfortunately, lies, ups and downs, weird roads taken. |
I'm just waiting for the next time that I'm comatose or kidnapped or you know (laugh) Yeah (laugh) I have amnesia. Where is my evil twin? And it's all a challenge because you have to make it real. So hopefully I can be a liar with integrity. We'll see I don't know. And I tell ya I'm getting so close to it that it hurts when my character makes a choice, that I myself, Kari, wouldn't make. It hurts. And I just hope that Kari is forgiven. |
Hate Reese but just always love me because I'm good I swear. |
7) The next one is from Mr Jessi O'Donnell. If you had the chance to name your dream role in a movie what would it be? |
Jessi, I think I would love to do the remake of Hair. (laugh) I want to do like some sort of crazy rock and roll musical film. I want to do Hair or Jesus Christ Superstar. I want to play Mary Magdeleine in some really sort of weird musical production of Jesus Christ SuperStar. Or Jesus Christ .... you know anything that's not as violent as Passion of. Yeah. Let's make Jesus fun again. |
8) All right. The next one is from Amanda. She writes "Sticking to a real girlie one here as I don't want to get too personal: What are your Favourite beauty products?" I don't know what they are but I know they cost a lot. |
(Laugh) Amanda. This is easy I love the Kerastases line of hair products as I have very fine hair and it tends to be weak and Kerastases makes a line to strengthen hair. And I love Stila Makeup. It's good. My friend Evee is a makeup artist or was a makeup artist for Stila I love the Stila Products. |
But I'm really not a groomer. Like I'm the kind of girl who lets her toenails get really long. And I never wear makeup unless you know, it is a special thing. Yeah that's bad. I always promised myself I wouldn't do that but when you're a Mom it's like sometimes it's hard and sometimes you forget. |
And when your Husband really loves you, it doesn't really matter always. But I guess it kind of does. Guess I have to start pulling out the Lingerie or something. Ummmm again yeah beauty products ...that's what I use. That and I love all kinds of like Blistex and Carmex Lip Balms. Thanks for the question. |
9) The next one is from Steve. I've enjoyed every movie I have ever seen you in, but is there a movie you regret being a part of for any reason? |
Steve that's a loaded question. I don't really have regrets because that's sort of a waste of time. I've learned from the choices I've made. I wish I could have been in more really good movies. But part of that was out of my control. Ummm. Thanks for the question. |
10) Now from Gary. What was it like playing a character that in some cases was reacting to an event that wasn't there when you played the scene and was added in by special effects later? |
That's what acting is Gary. It's the ability to use your imagination and your sense memory and recall emotions and stick it in the slot that you need it in for the scene. |
I mean, you know, it was kind of fun. Like we'd have a piece of green tape on a See-Stand and that would be the giant spider or the big snake and you're really able to sort of like use your imagination and go crazy. I really enjoy that. |
I love that kind of work. That fantasy sort of Sci-Fi thing. It's really fun. Plus I'm not really a people person anyway so inanimate objects I'm really more comfortable with. But umm the whole green screen thing and then seeing what happens later.... it's really cool because you're not really the focus of the scene when you're dealing with special effects scenes. It's the spider or the snake and so I don't have the chance to really scrutinize my own performance or myself that much. |
I'm as dazzled by the special effects as the next guy and I kind of like that. I like being 2nd to a giant fake creature so yeah thanks. |
11) The next one is from Kevin Shell. |
What is the single most important experience in your life and what one major experience in your life would you like most to forget or undo? |
Well if I was to forget any experience or undo any experience in my life then I wouldn't be at the place that I am now. Because I believe Kevin that every single experience makes you the person that you are. And things are going pretty well right now. I think the most important experience in my life was obviously the marriage to my Husband in combination with the birth of my Son. I have the most amazing family. I've become the person I've always wanted to be through and with them. I wouldn't change anything including the 1st marraige which was really bad because I am who I am because of it. |
And now I have my beautiful amazing soul mate and my incredible little boy. So thanks for the question. |
12) From Dan (in Canada) |
Just how much do you hate spiders (8 Legged Freaks) and snakes (Anaconda) and did that help you in either of the films? |
I love Snakes, Dan in Canada, and I was kind of like in awe of spiders. I never really let them touch me but when I did Anaconda, I let a tarantula crawl .... I mean when I did Eight Legged Freaks, I let a tarantula crawl on me which was pretty cool. |
You do what you gotta to do for the movie. I became afraid of them in my mind and it worked for the movie but you have to make friends with them when they're your scene partners every single day. And it was really fun. It's like little ways like that that you challenge yourself as an actor. Silliest little ways like that that maybe you never would if you were just a person who wasn't doing this for a living so it was kind of cool. |
13) From Jeff (In Chicago) |
I would like to know if you are thinking of selling autographed items on your web site like 8x10's, posters, cd's? Thanks a lot. |
Ummm Jeff In Chicago. I don't really like to sell anything but I definitely give them away or do some sort of auction for charity. I've got some clothes from General Hospital and I've got this painting that someone did of me ... stuff like that. I'm going to talk to Andrew about getting that all over to him. He can do whatever he wants with them. And as soon as I get some General Hospital pictures too I will send them over to Andrew as well. |
Oh yeah and my Charity you know I'm going to start setting stuff up for my Cancer Charity and you know auctioning stuff off for that. I don't really believe in selling your picture. I think your fans are there for you and they deserve your attention. Even at the Sci-Fi Conventions when people were selling their pictures, I did it for a little while because that's what they invite you to do but then I had to stop and then would just give them away. Because it is silly to me that people would pay money, you know? I don't know. But yeah stuff will be on the web site eventually. |
14) From Annie Foster (in Texas) and Teresa Friesner. |
You & Maurice have smoking HOT chemistry. Have you filmed a love scene with him yet? And if so, did the handcuffs make an appearance? |
Annie I've been trying to get the handcuffs into the picture. Teresa they haven't made an appearance yet but you never know. Yeah well we've done a couple well we haven't done a full love scene as of yet. |
Sonny & Reese haven't done it yet. But you know we did some smooching .... kind of fun. Smooching with an actor not my husband. I should film that Honey .... we should film that. |
(Laugh) That will be available on the web site soon. |
15) This one is from Brenda S. I won't even try to pronounce your last name sorry about that one. |
I just wanted to know how you balance your work schedule with raising your baby boy? |
Brenda Smerechniak ... some sort of Polish/Czech kind of name. It's a good name. It's really hard balancing my work schedule with my baby boy. |
I've eliminated some things in my life like the gym and shopping because I really love to rush home to him after work. I thought this job was going to be like 5 hours a day and it turned out to be about twice that. |
But he comes down and he visits me on the set once in a while and we make it work we really do. It's been tough but he's a really really happy boy and he's no worse for the wear. And the second, the second I notice a change in him is the day I stop working so.... We're making it work and thanks for the question. |
16) From Rocky (in California) |
Kari would you mind talking a bit about your time on Sliders? |
Sliders was amazing Rocky. I loved working with Jerry O'Connell. He's so funny and so smart. And I was actually really glad when it went from Fox to the Sci-Fi Channel because I knew that we would have more of our target audience and there would be more forgiveness in our storylines. And they got a little crazy but it was really fun. Whenever you're doing fantasy or Sci-Fi, it's like playing. It's great you know. Your reality is what you make it and I loved it and I would so want to do another Sci-Fi Series. |
When Jerry brought his brother Charlie on, you know Charlie The Bachelor, (laugh) that was fun too. It was great working with him and his brother and having a whole new dynamic. Just being a part of a cast, you know, where you're sort of a team is really good. I was sad when it ended, I really was but I knew we had exhausted our storyline at least with that staff and those writers. So it was all good. And people still to this day recognize me from that. And I'm really happy that I did it. It was really fun. |
17) From Helen Lucia |
On soaps we all know the old saying no one is ever really dead. I was wondering whether you think Reese's Son is really dead? |
Ohhh Helen that is such a good question. I don't know? A little spoiler for ya, I know that they are casting right now for somebody to come back into my life from my past. I have no idea who that could be? |
Maybe it could be my Mom, my Dad, my husband, my Son ... I have no idea? But you're right about that. No one is ever dead. And actually with my son Jamie .... remember we never found him. So you never know what could happen. But that's a great question. Thanks. |
18) From MKM |
Kari, based on Reese's background of becoming a Fed because of her Son's disappearance and murder, do you see her staying with the FBI or transitioning out of the bureau after she is confronted by the institutional corruption from Durant and others? |
Wow! MKM. A totally technical question. I hope they don't transfer me or fire me from the FBI because I have this really great badge that (laugh) I got for my birthday with my picture and everything ... totally legit FBI Badge .... except for the part that says General Hospital. Ah I don't know. I mean I would have a hard time with that I think because what really defines Reese right now is her job. Who is she going to be if she doesn't have her job? Is she just going to be another like kept woman? |
I don't see that happenning. So I don't know. I mean your guess is as good as mine. I really don't know the storylines before I get the script. The writers don't tell us. They don't want to tell us, They love keeping it a secret. I love discovering it as I go along. So your guess is as good as mine but when in fact or if in fact I'm not in the FBI anymore, we'll high five okay? |
19) This one is from Dimmi |
Now that the Hellraiser Movie is going to come out, are you glad a good film is coming out or worried that it is a bad film? |
Dimmi Demmi Dimmi. I love the Hellraiser Movie. I think it is a really good film. |
Yeah I get where you are coming from. I've been worried about the bad films in the past. But this film is directed by a really amazing guy named Rick Boda who I love as a Director. |
It was actually one of the greatest experiences I've had in making a movie. And I think it is really really good. I know there is a big Hellraiser following and people love the PinHead but this is a little bit of a departure from the typical Hellraiser Movie. And I think it's really dark and really kind of cool and I can't wait for the feedback from both the Hellraiser Fans and just, you know, people that know me and it's something I'm pretty proud of. |
20) From Robert |
Do you get recognized more when you're out in public since joining GH and what's it like seeing yourself on the cover of magazines? |
Hi Robert. I am crazy scared about this recognized thing since I joined General Hospital. I was in the supermarket the other day with my Son and these women came up and were like "Enzo how are you?" and I just looked at them like how do you know my Son's name? |
And then they had these Soap Opera Digest for me to sign and it was creepy. It was like seven women and they were all following me around the store and then they had to bring my groceries out to my car, I didn't know what to do? I forgot half my groceries. I couldn't even shop. I don't like it. I don't like it at all. It was really weird, I don't know. It's just begun right? So I don't know. I'm a little scared about that. |
21) Next one's from Glenn, |
Of all the characters you've played in Movies & on TV, which one would you love to revisit if you were given the chance? |
Hi Glenn. You know I've done such dark films and such crazy movies. When you're done playing a character, you are done and it's really hard to think about going back. |
Unless it was something light like maybe Eight Legged Freaks? I'd love to go back and do Sherriff Sam Parker again. That would be kinda fun. More giant spiders more big guns. Except I don't know if I could because I don't have the boobs anymore (laugh) |
22) Sheila writes |
We all think you're perfection but if there was one thing you could change about yourself what would that be? (laugh) Okay this is going to be a long one (laugh) |
I wouldn't change a "thing" about myself.... no. Oh my god I'm a woman. What wouldn't I change Sheila? But I think I'd like to have more discipline. I think that would be one thing |
But you want me to talk about my physical body don't you (laugh) Let's see. I would have a higher ass, I would have a smaller nose, ah plumper lips, thicker hair and a higher IQ. (laugh) |
23) Howard writes |
What's your favorite joke and who makes you laugh the most? |
My husband is my favorite joke and he makes me laugh the most.(laugh) Howard yeah my husband does he makes me laugh. And my Son... he's good too. |
What's my favorite joke? I like doing this a lot. I love going... like if somebody was to say Oh my god he ....that is so hard... I'd go .... that's what she said. (laugh) That just gets me every time that and "Oh my god he said doody." (laugh) I just reveal too much don't I? |
24) Moving on. From Dee in Ohio: |
Hi Kari, I am so thrilled you joined the cast of GH. Reese has rapidly become my favorite female character! Will you be having an event at Fan Club Weekend this year? And do you plan to do any personal appearances? |
This is Dee. Dee is the one that made me that compilation of letters. I think it's the same Dee right? Hi Dee. Thank you. I'm so thrilled I joined GH too. It's really great. So much fun Reese is complicated ... cool. I dig her too. I have not been invited at Fan Club Weekend. I think it was all set before I started so if something happens and I can be there, I will. But otherwise there are no plans. |
I want to do personal appearances as soon as I guess they feel like I am ready or I have enough people that are interested then I will. So look for that. I'll defintiely promote it when it happens. I'm planning on doing a College Lecture tour where I'll be lecturing to college students about the business ... being a woman ... body image .... that type of thing. so I will let Andrew know when and if anything comes up in the near future. I think my 1st college lecture might be even at the end of this month. So I'll let you guys know. Thanks for the question Dee and for everything else. |
25) From Albert |
With Season 3 of Sliders coming out on dvd soon, have you done any commentary tracks for the episodes? |
Hey Albert. Nobody has asked me to do anything for Sliders yet. I only joined Season 3 halfway through so I would imagine that I wouldn't be a priority of their's But the subsequent seasons yeah. So we'll see what happens. |
I'm so glad it is coming out on DVD though because people love it and you know it was a silly great little thing. When they ask me to do commentary, I'm gonna jump on that. So I hope you enjoy that. Thanks. |
26) From Carole (Osadchuk) |
Who came up with the background story for Reese's son? And are we going to hear more about that? |
Hi Carole. You know the writers come up with all the information but I really believe that they pull it from your real life. I think that they like to know what their actor's are close to and what they're involved in and then they... maybe it is just a coincidence but they tend to use it in the storyline. They know I love my little boy and I'm a happy Mommy and so I think they are coming up with this stuff. They will explore it in the future definitely. Reese will become a little bit more open to the viewers soon enough. So watch for that. |
27) David Wade says |
I know it's hard for an actress to judge which character she has played is most like herself, But I think it might be easy, and would help us fans get closer to understanding who Kari really is, for you to tell us which character is "least like you". And maybe why? |
Wow David that is a really well thought out question. And you're so right it may be easier to say who we would least think we are like because that is probably in the end who we are most like. Right? I don't know I've done so many different crazy things and you try to bring yourself into each character. |
But when I play the Maggie Beckett's From Sliders or the Reese Marshall's from GH they're women that are stong and sort of put up a front, I'd say that's least and most like me. I'm very available and emotional or so I think but yet I have my own masks. |
So there are definately parallells to myself in those characters yet I disguise it way more than they do. So I don't know that's a tough one. I've never been a stripper so I'm not like a lot of those characters I've played. I don't know. It's a good question. I think that a good actor will always use the most of themself in a character and my husband is always saying you know just be more of yourself. Put more of Kari into Reese and you become closer and more connected ... and the audience will connect and I think that's what I'm starting to do. And I find that even though she is nothing like me, She's very much like me too. |
Sometimes polar opposites are mirror images and we tend to be more like the humans we think we are furthest from. Know what I mean? That's why Reese and Sonny are so attracted to each other because they are opposites that are exactly alike. Does that make some sense? |
28) The next one is from Paul J.J. Pastore |
Have been hearing little snippets of things the last few years about a "Sliders" motion picture. Is this a possibility and if it should come to pass, would you consider being in it. Of course, if the material is suitable? |
Hi Paul. Yeah people have come up to me all the time and asked me about a Sliders Movie. I heard a little something something about that too ... but not in a couple of years. |
I think at this point the sort of creative team has dissolved and people have gone their different ways. I don't know if Jerry O'Connell would even consider it but if they called me and asked me to do it, I'd be so into it. |
But they'd probably go for the original cast before me. Wade and the Professor I think. But, you know, if they were to call me, I'd be so down with it. But I haven't heard anything in a while and I seriously doubt that that's happening. |
29) Mary (Nykiel) writes |
I hear that a S/R/C triangle is forthcoming (per MB's statement in the SOW with Carolyn Hinsley). Is there anything that us S&R fans should be worried about? I hope not and at the end, you better be the one that wins Sonny's heart. |
Awww thanks for that. Mary I am excited about the triangle happening. I think conflict is always really really good for good drama. |
I know that Sonny & Carly will not ... probably not get back together as a solid couple. I mean I know that once Sonny is seriously betrayed, he moves on. But they are always connected so there is definitely going to be a push and a pull. |
Nobody tells me what's going on so I don't know. I know, you know, the next script I have and that's pretty much it. But I'm going to work hard to make Reese a more impassioned and viable island for Sonny to come and rest on. So we'll see what happens. Carly will be around forever. Will Reese? I hope so. I know I have to fight to keep myself in there. I mean, you know, I'm coming into a sort of legendary couple and trying to make my mark. So we will see what happens. |
30) Lee writes |
Were you as blown away by Maurice's gorgeousness as I was when I first met him? |
Lee I am blown away by Maurice's gorgeousness every single day! |
31) Helen from Ontario Canada writes |
I read in various articles that you were not treated very well by the kids in high school and I would like to know in what ways? |
Okay so Helen you're going to bring all that back right now aren't you. |
I grew up in a very small suburban town in Connecticut. I don't know if I wasn't treated very well. I was never physically abused or you know cornered for fights ... really ... but umm well kind of but not really ... but I was just different from those kids. |
I was more metropolitan, a little more I had my thoughts and my dreams in a different place. I've had a lot of people say to me later "Oh you were the cool one. You were the only one who was with it. You were the only one that knew what was going on." |
I was going to school in New York City every single day after high school so I was on like a train and going into New York and that made me weird, different, threatening and I was a punk rocker so .... |
So Yeah I'm really scarred because I never really made really solid friendships but I take responsibility for most of that. |
32) Anita writes |
Carly seems to be the biggest obstacle for REESON. What would you have Reese do to tell Sonny that Reese is the woman for him and that he needs to see that? |
That's a tough question Anita. I don't think Reese could really tell Sonny that She's the woman for him over Carly because Carly is the mother of two of his children. I don't think she would want to get between that family. I think she would wait for him to make the choice. I would hope that her integrity would take her there at any rate. |
I don't think she would fight because she doesn't have desperation. She's a woman of her own means who lives by her own moral code. I think that love is most beautiful when two people are paralleled and not necessarily when their lives intersect and cross and make a mesh. So hopefully this will be a beautiful relationship based on two individuals and not two co-dependants. But we will see. I'm not the writer. |
33) Mark Stephens |
When looking back, on what I think is a career to be very proud of, which project do you always remember as the one that you had the best time doing? |
Well Mark I loved working on the Crossing Guard because it was so interesting and incredibly crazy working with Jack Nicholson, and Sean Penn and David Morisson and being part of like a soon to be legendary Hollywood Rat Pack But it's always the little movies, of the littler sort of crazy Kari Wuhrer vehicles that I thoroughly enjoy because I'm so safe on movies like that that I feel I can really take risks and be an actor who doesn't care so much about what people think. |
I think the Hellraiser Movie that I mentioned in the earlier question was really amazing for me because it was a crazy weird type of psychological thriller and I got to like feel a lot of weird things and express different things and I was in a foreign country and that was as an actor a pretty great experience and I'm really looking forward to hearing people's reactions to the Movie when they see it. |
34) Carla from Orlando writes |
How will Reese handle Sonny's baggage with Carly? I read that there will be some sort of triangle. My hope is that the triangle is only to facilitate him finally making a healthy choice for himself and choosing a woman that will not tear his life apart ,..... Reese . How will Reese deal with him while he's working this stuff out? Thanks again for doing this. Kari You ROCK! |
Thanks Carla. You know I think that Reese will allow Sonny to make the choice to come to her. |
The triangle? I really don't know how hard she is going to fight Carly. I think she feels that Carly is paranoid and immature. I don't know how much she can really relate to a woman like her right now. |
I think that there needs to be stuff written that makes them have more in common so she can really sort of connect with her on another different level so the triangle will become real. Do you understand what I mean. |
Like She needs to know this woman as more of a viable, interesting woman rather than just some sort of scrappy cat woman. So I'm hoping that something happens where they can actually connect that makes the triangle more interesting. Otherwise Reese is going to be like, whatever! She is so immature. I'm not going to even ...why bother fighting back. I don't want to stoop to that level. So I hope that happens but I don't know. Will Sonny make the right choice. All I can do is my job. The rest is up to the writers right. |
35) From Lorri Barnett |
Kari, I'm a stay at home Mom of a 3 yr old boy. .With the long hours you work are you able to bring your baby with you to work and if so, what does he do while you are filming? By the way you are great on GH! I love Reese and Sonny together ! |
Thanks Lorri. Yeah for stay at home Moms. I'm so into that. I was lucky enough to be with my Son for the 1st year of his life and then I decided to go back to work because I wanted to move into a bigger house for him and I wanted to get out of my husband's hair and have an excuse for shopping ... no (j/k) |
I just, you know, sometimes you just need to go back to work. But he is adjusting really well. I spend so much time with him ... 100% of my time with him when I'm not working. But I do bring him to the set. He comes in for lunch and stuff like that He hangs out with me. |
I have toys in my dressing room for him and there are other kids on the set and stuff. So it's great. I'm not up on the stage so much that he doesn't get to spend time with me. But you know some days are harder than others. Oh my husband is trying to tell me that Dylan Cash, who plays Michael on the Show, loves Enzo. And every day he says "Is Enzo coming today? Is Enzo coming today?" And they play together and he is so good with little babies. It's really fun to watch the two of them together. |
36) Richard Brown writes |
Any character roles on TV/Movies you would of wanted to play? |
TV Movies? I would have loved to play Natalie Wood in sort of a Bio Pic of Natalie Wood. That would have been fun. Or Rita Hayworth. Some sort of old Movie Star, Richard. I just love that whole era. That would be really fun. I know that on the big screen that would be a scary weird challenge but for TV.... |
I'm looking forward to the Elvis Movie actually that I guess is on CBS on Sunday. I'm not plugging them or anything but it's the guy from Velvet Goldmine that is playing Elvis. |
37) Nancy writes |
If you could plan a "perfect" day, how would you spend it? |
My perfect day would be absolutely no resposibilies Nancy other than hanging out with my Husband and my Son. Maybe going to lunch, to the park, to like a birthday party where he gets to like hop around and jump around in a castle...hanging out with friends. Just being with my family. My Mom, My Dad, My Brother, both of them and their daughters. Just like family and relaxation. That would be the perfect day. That's heaven for me. |
38) David Alvarez from San Jose, California |
Now that you have a steady character on T.V., do you have your career sights set to hang on the tube (daytime or primetime) or will we be seeing you back on the big screen? Shine on you crazy diamond, |
(Singing) Oh Shine on you crazy diamond. David thank you for that question. You know what? I don't know. I'm going to do what I'm doing today and maybe tomorrow. |
Who knows what's going to happen next? I don't have like the five year plan that people have. I don't know. I just do what's right for me at the time. I never ever thought I'd even do daytime. But my Son came along and it seemed like a good gig and you know I roll with it baby. |
39) Carissa writes |
Can you tell us about any recurring dreams you have -- of the silly, scary, or even in-between variety? Is that's too personal? Maybe you could share some of your all-time favorite movies with us? Thanks. |
Carissa what a really good question. I've been having so many weird dreams since I started GH and a lot of them include members of the cast. But the other night I had this weird dream that these gypsies broke into my New York apartment and were like taking over my apartment and living there and eating my food because they were homeless. |
And I couldn't do anything about it. And my Son was there and I was like GET OUT. Get out of my apartment. And I kept waking up. And then I'd go back to sleep hoping the dream would stop but it wouod pick up right where I left off. And they were like touching me and they were creepy and I'd be like Stop Touching Me. And I was really strong. Stop freaking touching me! And it was really a weird dream. I hated it. And that's weird to because I did that Movie "Thinner" where I played the Gypsy. Maybe I ate Greek Food or something that night. |
All time favorite Movies? I love Harold & Maude. And I love Gilda with Rita Hayworth it's one of my all-time favorites. And Breakfast at Tiffany's. And The Eyes Of Laura Mars. And Dressed To Kill and Blackout. [Bangs head into microphone .... ouch ... and passing out. (laugh)] |
40) This one is from Aoife |
What do you consider to be the most difficult thing you've done so far? |
The most difficult thing I've done so far? Umm? Honey ...the SAT's my husband says. I aced them and got a really good score. The most difficult thing I've done so far was probably take on this job with an infant/toddler Son, lose my house in the mudslide, move into a new house, try to keep my husband happy. It's been a tough couple of months. It's been a really tough few months. |
This job has been really hard. So I don't know Aoife. I guess I live in the moment and I gotta say that right now it's been harder than ever but not any less exciting or fun or rewarding or happy. You know sometimes .... like all the time really, difficulties is the best place to be at for advancement you know. |
41) The next one is from CTB3 which must be cousins with like C3P0? |
Did you consider asking Roger to sing a duet with you when filming those Slider episodes..by the way, you added a real punch to that series. |
Thanks for that question CTB3. When you said Roger, first I thought you were talking about my cat. His name is Roger Toes. |
I did sing with Roger Daltry. He was with us for like a week. We stayed at this Mission Hotel We did this party for everybody where everybody was begging him to sing. I got him up on stage and we did a few duets. We did Stand By My and then we did Talk About My Generation. Yes I sang with Roger Daltry and yes I'm a little bit taller than he is. |
42) Karlee B. writes |
On Carlys last day on GH when Reese and Sonny where fixin to hit the sheets I was certain I saw Sonny slip you the tongue. Were my eyes playing tricks ... just playing tricks on me? |
Hi Karlee B. No. He totally did! And our Executive Producer ... now the big joke on set is No Tongue. They thought it was me that slipped him the tongue. I don't know. It's so gross isn't it? |
But you're so in the moment that you don't like... I'm not even there you know. It's weird. It's a totally different experience than like kissing someone you love. I love Maurice don't get me wrong. But umm... no it's work man. You probably saw the tongue but let's just keep that between us. |
Anyway ahhh it's all good. Mo and I have a little understanding. |
43) Daniela Rocca writes |
Hey, I just wanted to know what shoe size Kari is? |
I'm a size 7. Size 7 Jimmy Choo (laugh) Daniela. I don't know why ... I don't know if you have a foot fetish or you're going to send me gifts but I love shoes. You send me a pair and I'll send you a pair. |
44) From Benjamin Graham Smith |
Thank you for the signed pictures. All I want is to hear Kari Wuhrer say hello to me. That's all. My Name is Benjamin Graham Smith. Plus can I send you some pictures of me and my mates? I just want you to get a picture of my life too. Thanks a lot. |
(Singing Reply) Benjamin Graham Smith. His name is my name too. Whenever I go out, the people always shout, there goes Benjamin Graham Smith LaLaLaLaLalaLa. (Laughs) |
45) From Vadim from Russia |
Which timbers (traits) do you consider to be good for a man? And which of them are you gonna bring up your son to be? |
Vadim what a good question. I think a man needs to enjoy sports. A man needs to know how to listen and know when to say no to a woman and know when to say yes. And I'm going to bring up my Son to be exactly like my husband who has all of those traits including patience and kindness. |
46) From Kelly |
If you hadn't become famous, what do you think you would be doing? |
Hi Kelly. Famous. If I wasn't an actress, I'd probably be a teacher maybe or a Mom who is both a teacher and an actress, Whew Mom ... Mom-ness. I love being a Mom. I think that's what I'd be doing. Maybe... hmmm ..... crafts. |
47) From Colton |
Reese and Sonny's have heated up daytime television scenes w/ all that Hot, Passionate and Open mouth kissing action. Have the directors of G.H said for the two of you to just go for it or what? DAMN!!!!! Also what does your husband have to say? Thanks for Answering, You Rock! |
What do you have to say honey? What do you have to say. All that open mouth kissing. He doesn't want to hear from me to say anything. You know I've been on set enough times to know what is work and what is not work. And I've met Maurice and he's a really good guy. And it's not a threatening situation. It's not something where you sit there and question anything. It's a job and it's disfunctionally normal. |
It's not something you really even think about. It's the divorce of like your wife versus character. I like to watch the Show now. I never was a daytime fan but now, you know, I do watch the show. And I watch Reese Marshall ... and I watch .... I'm sorry Agent Reese Marshall. And I watch Her and Sonny. And as a fan you see that and you just go that way with it. |
You know what's really weird Colton? I can't .. I'm like thinking here right now and I can't remember how Sonny or Maurice smells. But when my husband is away, I remember his smell and that's the difference right there. Thanks for the question. You rock !! |
48) Lisa G. writes |
You have mentioned how much you had to travel when making movies. What is the most memorable place you have ever been? |
Hi Lisa, The most memorable place I've ever been was actually... when I was making a movie was Czech Republic and Prague. I love Prague. |
Prague is the new Paris. Prague is the new black. It's the most incredible city. It's like the vortex of art and culture and history and pain and it's really an amazing place. The people there are incredible .... they just have ... they're long sufferers that's the word. They're just beautiful. And I love the city. |
But when I'm not working and when I'm remembering places, I remember Venice in Italy where my Husband and I met to make our Son. Yeah Venice Italy is incredible. I mean it's just like.... Any place you go as long as you commit to it is incredible. Traveling is great. |
49) The next one is from Garrett Rutherford |
Kari, you have proven your talent as a wonderful Actress by being both in Television and Movies. Some Actors and Actresses play a part and you never see the character through the actor, just the Actor/Actress as the character. What do you do to prepare yourself for a role and how do you always keep the characters you play uniquely different. |
Garrett thank you for the most amazing compliment an actor could ever get. Incredible. Thank you. I don't know. What do I do? I prepare for each role differently. I'm usually at a different time in my life when I'm doing each character. I'm always looking different, changing my look. I am always growing as a or stifling as an emotional being. I don't know. My life is just what it is. I feel something and see something different in each unique character and I tend to focus on it. With Reese Marshall and GH, it happens to be her impenetrable strength and her frail vulnerability underneath that. I just happen to those two things with myself. |
I don't know. It's just part of my homework you know. And if I can lose myself in the character, then that's a great thing. And again Garrett thank you for the compliment. It's wonderful. |
50) Mary (Nykiel) writes |
What is it like to work with Maurice? How do the two of you get along? Do you think you will be paired with someone else or is it Maurice for the long haul? (please say yes) |
Yes Yes Mary Yes. Maurice is amazing. He is such a generous actor ... just a great person. We get along really really well actually. As long as I keep myself real and open and honest, he's super available to me. It's a genuine working relationship. |
Hopefully one day we'll even be personal friends. I think I've signed on as Reese Marshall to be the love interest of Sonny so yeah so I think we are in it for the long haul. |
51) From Steve Fisherman |
With the crazy, hectic schedules we all face and even more so in the soap opera world, do you have a special regimen you follow to keep in shape - both mentally and physically? |
Why are you laughing honey? Yeah Keep in Shape. Oh Steve. I used to be a gym rat. Now that I have a baby and this job, I opt to take my free time home and spend it with my kid. |
I really don't have the discipline to be at the gym anymore. I wish I did and I need to start doing that for my overall health; especially if I want to have another baby but I don't know. I really need to.... |
Mentally? I need that even more. (Laugh) Stop laughing honey. I do. I'm stressed and I don't know. I need to do more silly things here at home. I have a pool, you know, we go in the jacuzzi, I'm on my karaoke machine right now. That helps for stress. Just to go nuts sometimes. (Kari makes silly noises) Kind of like that. |
52) From Jenn Blaze |
Ok, my question is (if it's too personal). Is it true that Kari dated Jenna Jameson? My boyfriend & I have a "friendly" bet. He swears it's her but I'm not too sure...$500 dollars & 2006 season tix for the Lakers are up for grabs, & not to mention the "I told you so". Hopefully I'm right... so please choose my question. My Amex bill & I will be soooooo grateful. Thanx! |
Hi Jenn. So did I or did I not date Jenna Jameson? Hmmm? Hmmm? Are you sweating now? Part of me wishes I could say yes but no I've never even met Jenna Jameson.(Laugh) I don't know who your boyfriend is thinking of but your friendly bet has just bought you Lakers Tickets and a free Amex Bill. So wow that's like the best rumor in the world. I would be too embarrasssed to take my clothes off next to her nowadays. All right Thanks for the question I guess Jenn. |
53) Peter Meadows from Mansfield England |
Does your new commitment to TV appearances on General Hospital mean that you will not be doing anything in the UK in the near future? Can I encourage you to consider the London stage? I think you'd be sensational in sassy comedy roles!! If not, I'll dream on. |
Peter Meadows. Am I invited to London England to be on the London Stage? Do you know how hard it is to get a Visa to do that? You totally have to be sponsored by a theatre. But General Hospital is now on in England I've heard.... although it's like a year and a half behind when I first started. I'm not on out there yet. But one day. But it might mean that as a team we'd be doing appearances in England. I don't know I love London. I haven't been there in awhile but yeah I'd love to do London Stage. I attended Rada (Royal Academy Of Dramatic Arts) for a little while. I love it out there and I'd love to do a Sassy Comedy! And if I do, I'll take you to lunch. |
Oh yeah you know what? Hey Peter. I'm a huge Cat Stevens Fan. So if you ever hear Yusuf Islam (you know the old Cat Stevens) performing or doing anything anywhere get me tickets, I'll totally take you and your family, reimburse you, fly out there, hang out and we'll all go to the concert together. What do you say? |
54) The next one is from Dann Burrell |
When you were working on a project, what was the funniest blooper or experience that has happened? |
Umm oh my gosh, So much has happened over the years. What can I even talk about that's not too much that will get people in trouble? Hmmm? Let me get back to that question. I'll come back to you Dann. |
55) In the meantime, this one is from Mary Kay (Bourgeois) |
I was wondering about the necklace you wear on the show and in some of the ABC pictures. Is there some history or meaning for Reese or is this a personal choice. I'd love to know what each charm means. |
Hi Mary Kay. The necklace was designed by somebody who decided they wanted their necklace on the show ... our designer picked it. But it's really funny because Dylan Cash, who plays Michael on the Show, pointed out that it is actually a Boys Scout of America Logo on that necklace. I don't know if it was just a choice by the jewelry maker for like a kitsch reason. |
But I thought that was kind of cool so I wore it for a little while, got sick of it and put it on hold for awhile. Maybe it will come back? |
56) And I guess back to Dann's question. |
Hi Dann. A long time ago I did this movie called Sensation with Eric Roberts. It was kind of a cool movie. The Director was really really funny. We used to all call him Dr. Seuss because he always had stories and he was kind of cool and he looked just like Jimmy Page actually. He's this crazy English guy. |
And I was doing a scene where I was sleeping in bed and we were doing this night shoot and I was so tired and I actually fell asleep. And the whole crew tiptoed off the stage and left the entire stage dark. And I woke up screaming in fear because I had no idea where I was and I didn't know where the crew was. It was very very very funny. |
So I've learned that when I do like sleeping scenes from now on Dann, I keep one eye opened. |
The End! (Laugh) |
Thank you everybody so much for all your great questions. I so apologize for it taking so long to do but this took like 4 hours tonight to do. It's just incredible that you guys care so much to write in like this and I hope you bare with us tonight. We're punchy and we're at home and we're on our karaoke machine and maybe now I'll do a Rick Stringfield song for ya ....... |
